Sectors: separating sand and silt from water

For more than 40 years we have designed and built machines in Forlì, Italy, that separate sand and silt from the bentonite slurry of foundation sites. The same principle works wherever water carries soil.

  • 40+ years in slurry treatment
  • 300+ projects delivered
  • 50+ countries where we have sold machines

Where our machines work

The same principle, in four steps

  1. 01

    Screen

A screen holds back stones, leaves and coarse material.

  2. 02

    Pump

Wear-resistant pumps feed the sandy water to the hydrocyclones.

  3. 03

    Separate

In the hydrocyclones, centrifugal force separates sand and silt from the water, down to 30 µm.

  4. 04

    Recirculate

Clean water goes back into circulation; the sand comes out concentrated, ready to collect.

The limit, up front

A hydrocyclone separates sand and silt, not very fine clay. If your material is almost all below 30 µm, you need settling or filter presses, and we will tell you before we quote.

Incentives

Updated October 2026. Requirements, rates and deadlines change: always check with your tax adviser.

Buying a machine may qualify for measures such as hyper-depreciation 2026–2028, Nuova Sabatini and the ZES Unica tax credit in southern Italy. The sector pages also cover the public programmes driving each market.

Why SAICI

  • 40+ years and 300+ projects in slurry treatment.
  • Wear-resistant parts: every part subject to wear is made from wear-resistant materials, selected and tested for the duty.
  • Spare parts shipped within 24 hours of the order, for all our machines: a plant or a site standing idle while it waits for a part is expensive.
  • Designed and built in Forlì: you deal directly with the people who know the machine.
  • Straight answers: if one of our machines isn't right for you, we'll say so.

Don't see your sector?

If there is sand or silt in your water, tell us about your process. We'll tell you honestly whether one of our machines can help. To start, we only need:

  • what the water carries: sand, silt, clay
  • the flow rate, in m³/h
  • a photo or diagram of the process
